self-taught, Flo learns to read by going to hide from the rich library building. Its many tricks to be discovered not always work and, ultimately, the young have found a perfect hiding place at one of the towers of the old building.
The peaceful routine of life in Florence, however, is the first to be shocked by the attendance imposed by her governess of the young and sickly neighbor Theo Van Hoosier, and then the arrival of a governess, Miss Withacker, which, however, was short-lived as they died accidentally during a boat trip on the lake adjacent to the estate.
In fact over time, Theo becomes a close friend of Florence and Giles and his visits are always expected and welcome, especially since, in place of the old governess, Miss Taylor has appeared, the woman from the highly suspect ways.
Florence feels that Taylor is morbidly attached to his brother and is afraid to kidnap him. As we pass the day Florence is more and more convinced that the governess is the incarnation of an evil spirit, so much so that he sees his image on all the mirrors, as if he were there to spy. At this point, decides to intervene, but how ...? This did not unveil.
I found reading this book very exciting. Until the end trying to figure out where is good and what evil. It reminded me a lot of "The Turn of the Screw" by Hanry James, of course treated with the current narrative rhythms. Much of the original words Flo invented out of whole cloth to imitate Shakespeare.
few steps from the text:
* Morning and afternoon at the library in the tower
* I had judged by appearances, I imagined it as a kind of lanky invertebrate that would doubled without His starched shirt to keep it straight. So reluctantly I felt that day ... a certain admiration for him when I saw him make his way among the piles of snow. Devotion and a fierce dog to me, including that it was much more of his verses poor
